Current news:
Gulf News * New York Times * Palestine Daily * World News * CBS New York

In the darkness of September 11 2001, when New York City and Washington DC. were attacked,

bible the current Daily Bible Reading included Proverbs 24:1-28 and the reading for Sept 11 from Osborn Chambers' "My Utmost for His Highest" included this thought for John 13:14
"Ministering in Everyday Opportunities
that surround us does not mean that we select our own surroundings -- it means being God's very special choice to be available for use in any of the seemingly random surroundings which He has engineered for us. The very character we exhibit in our present surroundings is an indication of what we will be like in other surroundings."

[sheep?] Keep 1 Samuel 17 in mind. When David overcame the Philistine who was defiling God, David realized that "It is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves..." We also can continue training for spiritual warfare against God's enemies.
"My Strength is in the Lord"

Having faith, practice, and experience in scripture helps us in times like these to deal with death & evil ... fear ... suffering ... weakness ... terror ... enemies ... seeking safety ...

bible Isaiah 8:11-22:
The LORD spoke to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me not to follow the way of this people. He said:

Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it.

The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread, and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.

Many of them will stumble; they will fall and be broken, they will be snared and captured.

Bind up the testimony and seal up the law among my disciples.

I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob. I will put my trust in him.

Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.

When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?

To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.

Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God.

Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.

Isa. 8:11 through Isa. 8:22 (NIV)

bible
Psalm 27:1-3:
"The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid? When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident."

for Sept 12
from
Osborn Chambers'
"My Utmost for His Highest"
The Strangeness of His Faithfulness
(see Luke 18:1 - 8).
"When the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?" (Luke 18:8). Will He find the kind of faith that counts on Him in spite of the confusion? Stand firm in faith, believing that what Jesus said is true, although in the meantime you do not understand what God is doing. He has bigger issues at stake than the particular things you are asking of Him right now.
