This is the genealogy given from Adam
to Moses. This genealogy from Adam shows the lineage through Abraham, his
promised seed Isaac and his seed Jacob that was named Israel. Then we see
that this genealogy takes us from Jacob to the very man that The HOLY ONE
would use to lead Israel out of Egypt to the Land of Promise.
First let us note that these generations have an order to them. They were not random and they did not just happen. We read the following, "For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?" Luke 14:28. If we understand that this is the example The Messiah gave then it is a pattern that His Father followed and as such that we are to understand that The HOLY ONE planned all things before the foundation of the World....before he started "to build!" Knowing this will help us to see the order of these generations and what is said about them.
We will notice that number seven ENOCH lived only 365 years. It is said of him that he walked with God and God Took Him. Here also we should note the number seven as Enoch is the seventh generation. The number seven in the scriptures is noted as Spiritual prefection, and it marks such things as the 7 days of Creation. The seven spirits of The HOLY ONE in the book of Revelations and so forth. So we can see that the order of Enoch's generation has something to do with Spiritual Prefection and we see noted that he walked with God meaning he did as God had directed him to do and as a result God took him. The rest of the men in these 26 generations are all noted as having died or that all their days were ended with a certain year. But Enoch was different so we must ask the question why? Now folks like to go to the New Testament and the book of Hebrews to try to prove that Enoch in fact died. Not to argue this point but to work on it we must notice that Hebrews 11:5 states, that Enoch was translated that he might not see death. So if he died as all men die then why does it tell us this. If he died as all men died then why does the Old Testament correspond with the Hebrews passage and instead of saying he died as all the rest died it says he walked with God and God Took him? "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. " Clearly there is something here that The HOLY ONE wants us to see, but what it is?
Now we have heard all the arguments on both sides of this case. The end result of the arguments are to forget that there is a difference between what is said of Enoch and what is said of all the rest of this lineage. Now this lesson is not to prove or disprove that Enoch lives or is dead, but only to point out this difference for now. The question of Enoch's death will be subject for another lesson in the future.
Before we move on let us note something else about what is said of Enoch. He lived 365 years. This is important for it is a pattern of something else we have information on. We are taught by our Jewish brothers that there are 613 Commandments. These 613 Commands are broken down into positive commands and negative commandments. We are told that there are 365 negative commandments and 248 positive commandments. We are further told that the 365 negative commands correspond to the days of the year and that the 248 correspond to the number of separate parts of our body. The 365 related to the 365 years of Enoch and this relates to the 365 days in a year. So we see that the days of man and the years of Enoch are related in this number 365. This too is a subject to be presured at another time.
We will see next that Noah was the 10th generation from Adam. The number 10 has a meaning in scripture and is most often used to mean ordinal prefection. There are the 10 commands. The 10 days of Awe. The 10 Virgins and so on. He we see that The HOLY ONE chose this 10th generation and to have Noah born and it would be he and his family of this generation that would spring forth as a new beginning as there was 8 of them on board the Ark.....eight being the number of new beginning.
We see both positive and negative aspects ot numbers. An example can be see in the fact that Lamech who was Noah's father lived to be 777 years old. We can see the negative in Lamech in that Genesis 4:24 records this information for us, "If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold." This was lamented of Lamech when he told his wives of the killing of his having killed a man and this wounded him as he saw an avengment of seventy and sevenfold upon him which was seventy times more than Cain. Note that when we that the years of Lamech 777 and add the sevens together 7+7+7 we have a mathmatical digital root of 21. So we can see 21 as a negative number. We can also see this negative use of 21 used in the book of Daniel. Daniel 10:13 we read, "But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia."
Here we see that the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood the angel that was coming to make know information to Daniel. So we see it in the negative sense. What we will notice in a few is 21 used in a postive sense in the covenant lineage of Israel.
Next we will go to the 20th generation and here we shall see the name Abraham. The HOLY ONE chose this 20th generation to bring forth Abraham who was to receive His Covenant. The 20th is 2 times 10 or ten magnified.
The next thing we note is the positive aspect of the number 21 for it is in the 21 generation of this lineage that The HOLY ONE chose to bring forth Isaac the Promised seed of Abraham that He would confirm His HOLY Covenant. Abraham was the first, Isaac was the second and then Jacob who was Isaac son was the 3rd. It was Jacob who was the 22nd generation of this lineage who The HOLY ONE renamed Israel. We should also note that it is the children of Israel who it is said spoke the Hebrew language which uses 22 letters.
As we go one down the lineage we see that Levi is mentioned as the 23rd generation and that he is the 3rd son of Jacob. It is the 3rd son's lineage or the Levites that The HOLY ONE choose as His portion and they were to serve Him in His Tabernacle and Temple. It should be noted here that the number three is seen as a number associated with The Messiah and Worship. As to worship we see that Moses said to Pharoah we shall go three days into the wilderness and worship or God...Exodus 5:3. How did Moses know what to say to Pharoah with reference to the three days? Because The HOLY ONE has spoken to him earlier from the burning bush recorded in Genesis 3:18 and specified the three days. The three days was confirmed again in Exodus 8:27. We also see the 3 days in Numbers 10:33; 33:8. We also know that 3 was a number associated with The Messiah in that he was in the grave 3 days and 3 night as Jonah was in the belly of the whale 3 days and 3 nights...Jonah 1:17 & Matthew 12:40.
What we have seen so far is that The HOLY ONE has planned out the order of these generations and has left nothing to chance regarding the order each has been set within. This is witnessed by the following passage in 1 Corinthians 15:23 "But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming."
The next thing we will notice is that Moses is the 26th generation from Adam. The HOLY ONE here is showing us something very important. As he has chosen Moses to be the 26th generation and the one who would lead the children of Israel out of Egypt. The number 26 is here to show us again that it is The HOLY ONE that has done the bringing forth and note just a man for the number 26 is the number of the gematria of The HOLY NAME Yud, he, vav, he. Twenty-six is the number 13 magnified or two times 13. The number 13 represents EHAD or ONE when it is said that The LORD IS ONE and His NAME ONE. For the Hebrew word "EHAD" has the gematria of 13. Also we know that The HOLY ONE is love and He has a love for mankind. So too we see that 13 is the gematria for another Hebrew word......that being "AHAVAh" which means love. The number 13 also is manifested in the 13 attributes of mercy. So we can see how The 13 attributes of mercy corresponed with The Name of The HOLY ONE who had mercy on the children of Israel and brought them out of Egypt by a man (Moses) in the 26th generation from Adam.
Now before we mentioned the important of the number three (3) in worship and that of The Messiah. Please note this pattern that is setup by the scriptures themselves. Starting from Genesis 5:5 which speaks of Adam we will note that the next generation, that of Seth, is in Genesis 5:8 whis is exactly three verses or sentences. This pattern continues to the next generation in Genesis 5:11; then the next in Genesis 5:14; 5:20; 5:23; & 5:27.
There are many other patterns within the number of this area but this is enough for this study to show that The HOLY ONE foreordained the order of these generations. We will close this study with the following: "And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. " Genesis 6:3. We see here that The HOLY ONE made a pronouncement upon the days of man's years as being 120. It is then interesting to note that the 26th generation of this lineage or Moses lived exactly 120 years and he died. Now notice this also. If we understand that, "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." 2 Peter 3:8. Then we can see yet another pattern within His HOLY ORDER. You see mankind and all that was made for him in this world was completed in 6 days. Using the pattern of 1 day for 1,000 years and 6 days for 6,000 years of mankind. Then we see that the Sabbath which was the 7th day was a day of rest and in conjunction with this we see the 1,000 years of The Messiah's regin here on earth as being The Millenial Rest. If we take the 6,000 years aloted to mankind and divide it by 50 years which was the number of years in the Jubilee or 7X7+1=50. We have 6,000 divided by 50 equals exactly 120 of these Jubilee's in the whole of the 6 days of man.
